Hope Funds For Cancer Research screening of How to Win a Nobel Prize

 NEWPORT, RI — December 15, 2023 -- Hope Funds for Cancer Research, dedicated to advancing research for the most difficult-to-treat cancers, screened its recently-produced short film at a private club in Boston, on December 11. The event, along with earlier screenings in New York City and Newport, raised funds for postdoctoral fellowships granted by the organization. 


"How To Win A Nobel Prize," directed by Gary Jobson, includes interviews with Hope Funds honorees who won the Nobel Prize subsequent to receiving the Hope Funds Award of Excellence: James Allison, Ph.D., awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work in discovering how the body's immune system can be harnessed to combat cancer; William G. Kaelin, Jr., M.D., awarded the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work in the discovery of how cells sense and adapt to oxygen availability; and Jennifer Doudna, Ph.D., awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of a method for genome editing. In addition, the film features interviews with four Laureates who won the Nobel Prize prior to being awarded the Hope Funds Award of Excellence, Sir Paul Nurse, Ph.D., Elizabeth Blackburn, Ph.D., David Baltimore, Ph.D. and Phillip Sharp, Ph.D. 


After the screening, a conversation about the film was held with director Jobson.

Hope Funds For Cancer Research Film premier NYC



NEWPORT, RI — October 17, 2023 -- Hope Funds for Cancer Research, dedicated to advancing research for the most difficult-to-treat cancers, held a small screening of its recently produced short film, at a private club in New York City, on Monday, October 3rd, raising nearly $60,000 for postdoctoral fellowships. The black-tie event included a discussion with the film makers, Hope Funds Trustees Gary Jobson and Andrew Robertson.


The short film "How To Win A Nobel Prize," directed by Gary Jobson, includes interviews with Hope Funds honorees, who won the Nobel Prize subsequent to receiving the Hope Funds Award of Excellence: James Allison, Ph.D., awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work in discovering how the body's immune system can be harnessed to combat cancer; William G. Since its inception in 2006, Hope Funds for Cancer Research has honored 35 distinguished scientists and medical professionals with its Awards of Excellence for Basic Science and Clinical Development, and nine of these remarkable researchers have received the Nobel Prize. Three of these distinguished individuals - Dr. Allison, Dr. Doudna, and Dr. Kaelin - have subsequently been awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, or for Chemistry, in three consecutive years.

Hope Funds for Cancer Research Gala 2023 Newport RI

Hope Funds for Cancer Research, dedicated to advancing innovative research for the most difficult-to-treat cancers, held its 2023 Award of Excellence Gala at Marble House in Newport, Rhode Island, on Saturday, July 15th, raising $300,000 for postdoctoral fellowships. 

The Awards Dinner and Gala is held annually by Hope Funds to provide support for programmatic activities and to raise funds for postdoctoral fellowships in cancer research.  At the white tie dinner, distinguished honorees were presented with the Hope Funds Awards of Excellence, which recognize outstanding achievements in the fields of basic research, drug development, medicine, patient support and philanthropy. 

The Chairs for the event, which included 120 guests, were Mr. and Mrs. Ross S. Cann, Dr. and Mrs. Andrew R. Mullen, and Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Van Schaack. The Jr. Committee Chairs were Mr. & Mrs. Gregg Griffin. The Honorary Chair was Dr. William G. Kaelin, Jr.

This year's honorees were William C. Hahn, M.D., Ph.D., from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, for Medicine, Nathanael Gray, Ph.D., from Stanford University, for Basic Science, and Alexander Varshavsky, Ph.D., from Caltech, for Basic Science.

Friday July 15th, 2022 Hope Funds for Cancer Research Fellow Dinner at Marble House

Last Friday night Hope Funds for Cancer Research held their annual Fellows dinner at Marble House in Newport RI. 
The annual Fellows dinner celebrates the young researchers whom Hope Funds Cancer Research supports. Fellows who have completed their three-year post doctoral fellowships get their graduation speeches that evening, and board members, scientific advisors, and major donors, have an opportunity to meet with the young researchers and discuss their work.
