Tom Gold Dance at Kykuit

Last night was the most perfect evening.
I jumped on the train with Bill Cunningham and Dan Dutcher and headed up to Kykuit, the historic Rockefeller Estate in the Pocantico Hills just an hour from Manhattan for the Tom Gold Dance performance.
The weather was amazing and so was the location. When I first arrived Tom was in the garden warming up with one of the dancers.
As we walked over to the lawn where the stage had been set we passed the Brancusi Bird in Space and at Bill's request Tom leaped into the air.
The program was made up of a combination of classic and fun dances set to the music of Faure, Satie, Poulenc and Gershwin and - in his newest creation - classic songs by Noel Coward and Ivor Novello which were sung live by vocalist Sasha Weiss while Susan Walters played the piano.
It was still light at 8pm when the performance came to an end and everyone headed up to the terrace for cocktails. The view was breath taking.
Then it was time to head over to Stone Barnes for the 5 course dinner and the chance to dine with the dancers.
Many thanks to Gillian and Sylvester Miniter who found a spot in their car and saved me from the midnight train. Also thanks to the talented PR man Dan Dutcher who helped make sure I got photos of all the right people and most of all thanks to Tom for inspiring us all to smile with his joyful dances and wonderful choreography.

Instagram travels

I love traveling and taking photos with my iphone. It becomes my diary.

I just got back from a trip to Morocco where I visited my best friend from childhood, Rebecca Raft and her partner PC. This amazing couple are the creators and owners of Bouvier, an artisanal jewelry studio located in Palm Beach just outside of Sydney.

Rebecca and  PC bought and renovated a riad in the medina of Fez a few years ago after they fell in love with the people and the soul of the place. It is magical .
They are always surrounded with artists and creative people where ever they go and staying in their home is the most inspiring time for me.

Fellow house guest was the very talented Maryam Montague who was visiting Fez for the Sacred Music Festival. She has a great blog where you can find out all about her life in Marrakesh and beyond.  www.mymarrakesh.com

Surrounded by treasures that Rebecca has designed or they have found together on their adventures into the souk that is right out side their door I always come back to NY feeling like my creative vision has been given a polish.

It starts with instagram and catching little moments of time without fussing as I wander the ally ways.

Renny and Reed celebrate their new website.

Last Wednesday night Renny and Reed hosted a cocktail party in their store at 505 Park Ave to celebrate the launching of their new website.
Despite the rain all of their friends showed up to celebrate with them. The fabulous location showcased beautiful flowers.
The shop glowed thanks to friends from Frost Lighting and guests nibbled on those wonderful appetizers catered by my favorite person Olivier Cheng .

Ellie's Birthday

When Jessica called me to tell me she was having a party for Ellie's first birthday I was really excited to go out to their home and take photos.
The grass was covered in rugs and there was a tent for the tables. There were hotdogs and hamburgers and lots of great food. The cake was an elephant and the theme was carried over to the little gift bags for the guests , a big elephant ballon sculpture and elephant pop cakes.
After helping her parents blow out her candles ( yes there were many on her cake) she was given her own cake to eat. I do not think she liked getting her fingers sticky until she realised it was yummy.

Peace Love and a Cure, Triple Negative Breast Cancers Foundation's Annual Cocktail Party

Last night was Peace Love and a Cure, Triple Negative Breast Cancers Foundation's Annual Cocktail Party.
The foundation was founded in 2006 at the request of Nancy Block-Zenna, a young mom living in New Jersey who was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2005 and who lost her battle 2 and a half years later. A group of her friends banded together and made it happen.
Malaak Compton-Rock called me and asked me to photograph the first event that she held at her home in 2007. This year she called me again.

It is amazing to see what a group of women can achieve when they get together.

Last night the Champion Award went to Robin Roberts presented by Deborah Roberts for her bravery in going public and taking us with her as she faced Triple Negative Breast Cancer.
The Vanguard Award went to GE and was accepted by Michael J Barber and presented by Tonya Lewis Lee.
The Hero Award went to Dr Lisa Newman, MD who researches breast cancer and high risk patterns in African Americans and was presented by Soledad O'Brien.
Cristy Norwood was given the Courage award by Stephen Kandel. As Cristy told her story of overcoming breast cancer which she was diagnosed with when she was pregnant with her 5th child, it was impossible not to cry. With her faith in god and the love and friendship from family and friends she told how valuable it was have TNBC as source of information and support.
Today with more awareness and early detection women have a place to get information and support and as a result they are surviving this form of cancer. To find out more go to www.tnbcfoundation.org
